Paint, fixtures and weekend DIY from a bank teller on her third house. Mistakes included, down to the dollar.
Sobre Rosa Jimenez
I'm Rosa, a bank teller in Tucson who renovates houses on weekends. In 2015 I bought a rundown house because it was all I could afford, fixed it with online videos and my dad's help (and his tools, which he still lends me), and sold it. I'm now in house number three, a 1960s block ranch in midtown, with my son Mateo, who's 12, and Chispa, a cattle-dog mix who has walked through wet paint more than once. Here I write about paint, fixtures, tools and the real cost of DIY. I keep every receipt, so I can tell you exactly where I went over (ask me how I know). The good news? My mistakes can be your cheap lessons. Always buy a sample first. And anything involving the breaker panel? That's where I call a licensed electrician.
