I spent thirty years with the San Antonio fire department and retired a captain in 2017, and back at the station replacement gear took months, so I learned to stitch and patch and resole my own and I've judged clothes by their seams ever since. Here I write about workwear and western boots and what holds up, and how to fix the stuff that doesn't. I've got ropers from 1986 that've been resoled four times, and they're older than my kids. Linda and I have had the same brick ranch on the West Side since '87, with a woodshop in the garage and an old hound named Biscuit asleep in it. I'll tell you what. Welted, not glued.
