Ever bought the toy everyone swears your kid needs, then watched them play with the box? I have taught kindergarten at a public elementary school in Salt Lake for twelve years, and I've watched hundreds of five-year-olds choose plain wooden blocks over the flashy stuff. Then I go home to Owen, Levi and Sam, who have more toys than sense and still fight over the laundry basket. Here I write about learning toys, outdoor play, toys that last and screen-free play. Every post gets an age range, give or take, and an honest note on what got ignored. We live in Millcreek with my husband, Ryan, and a class goldfish named Captain that we, by the way, never gave back. Your best bet is usually simpler than you think.
