Why does a cream feel the way it does? That question is more or less my job. I'm a senior formulation chemist at a small contract lab in Burnaby, where I develop creams and serums for independent brands, after four years in quality control at a pharmaceutical plant. Here I write about formulation, textures, beauty myths and how products work. Expect a myth of the week, a close look at slip and spread, and the occasional ratio; a light cream isn't weaker, and a thick one isn't richer. I live in East Vancouver with my husband, Kenji, our daughter Iris and a rescue rabbit named Agar, and I throw tea bowls on a wheel in the garage. Think of this channel as a stable emulsion of facts and puns.
