I am a community pharmacist in Bristol, and most weeks someone at the counter asks me about a serum they have bought, or a rash they think the serum caused. Before that I spent eight years in hospital pharmacy supporting a dermatology clinic, which showed me how often skin reactions come from products people choose for themselves. Here I write about skincare ingredients, sunscreen, sensitive skin and reading labels; usually one ingredient per post, with what the evidence suggests and where it runs out. I will not promise more than is known. I live in Bedminster with my husband, Gareth, and an elderly cat called Marigold, and swim in the harbour when the water is reasonable. Patch test first.
