I am a paralegal at a mid-sized litigation firm in downtown St. Louis, where I have spent eleven years tracking court deadlines; I do it on paper, in four colors, with real ceremony every Sunday evening. Here I write about planners, notebooks, pens and the systems that hold them together: what opens flat, what bleeds through, what survives a trial week. I believe paper planning beats an app for anyone who needs to remember what they wrote, and that four colors is the limit for a color code; past that, you are decorating. I also do calligraphy with a fountain pen, a habit left over from studying for law school, which I did not attend. I live in Tower Grove with my husband Marcus and Docket, a gray tabby who sits on whichever planner is open.
