Clothes for rain, paint and a staff meeting, every coat judged by the bus-stop test.
Sobre Harriet Clarke
I teach art at a secondary school in Manchester, and have done for nearly twenty years, so I spend most days on my feet, in the rain or near an open tub of poster paint. That has made me a fairly unsentimental judge of clothes. Here I write about practical workwear, rainwear, comfortable shoes and colour: what survives a full working day, and what only looks perfectly decent in the shop window. Every coat gets the bus-stop test on Oxford Road. Most fail at the cuffs. I live in a Victorian terrace in Levenshulme with Neil, our son Tom, and an elderly Labrador called Pudding, who won't go out in heavy rain. On balance, he has a point.
