I manage an outdoor gear shop in Denver. Started there at seventeen stocking shelves. Moved to boot fitting. Fitted thousands of pairs since. Most boot problems are sizing problems. Here I write about technical outerwear, boots, layering and durable basics. What goes next to skin. What goes on top. What to skip. I test gear in snow before I talk about it, usually on a trail run or a fishing trip with Scout, my heeler mix, riding in the pickup. Grew up in Grand Junction. Still wear a twelve-year-old merino baselayer. Dry is warm. Cotton stays home.
