Paints, glazes and clay supplies from a Santa Fe potter, judged by color, texture and what comes out of the kiln.
À propos de Felix Romero
I'm Felix, a ceramicist and illustrator in Santa Fe. I studied illustration in Albuquerque, took one ceramics elective, and it ate my life. For six years I've sold mugs, bowls and prints at weekend markets, with Chile, my scruffy terrier mix, asleep under the table. My kiln is a secondhand electric named Big Joan who lives in the yard of my rented adobe casita. Here I write about paints, glazes, underglaze pencils, clay and the tools that touch them, described the way they actually look and feel, chalky in the bucket, glassy at cone six, the color of a monsoon sky if you're lucky. Buy fewer paints. Learn to mix. Mind the handle and the foot ring. My grandmother says I learned color stirring her red chile. She's not wrong.
