I drove long-haul for thirty-eight years, mostly refrigerated freight, and put more than two million miles under me before I retired, and I bought my first motorcycle at nineteen and have toured every summer since, so I have seen a good deal of road and a fair amount of weather out in that country. I live on an acre east of Tulsa with a metal shop out back and Rooster, a red heeler who rode in my truck cab for nine years and now rides in a sidecar on short trips. Here I write about motorcycles, touring gear, helmets and rain suits and the road stories that go with them, and some of those stories are even true. I'll tell you plainly, I ride in a full-face helmet every single time, and I took a safety course after a close call in 2003 and never once regretted it. Gear first, folks.
