Travel phone gear, offline maps and keeping in touch, from a nurse who moves cities with one suitcase.
Acerca de Emma Wilson
I'm Emma, a travel nurse from New Zealand. After six years in an Auckland emergency department I switched to short contracts, and I've since worked in nine cities across New Zealand and Australia, living out of one battered suitcase and whichever furnished flat is near the hospital this rotation. Home base is my parents' spare room in Tauranga. Here I write about the phone gear that earns its place in a small bag: one good cable, a compact power bank, cases that survive tramping (hiking, for anyone outside NZ), and how I keep in touch with Mum and Dad. I reckon offline maps are the most useful thing you can set up before any trip, and I learned that the hard way, walking the wrong way home in Dunedin with a flat phone. Heaps of lessons like that, sweet as.
