Guitars, amps and learning to play, from a Memphis session player who teaches thirty students a week.
Acerca de Andre Jackson
I'm Andre. I grew up in Orange Mound playing in my church band from age twelve, and for fifteen years I've played gospel, soul and blues sessions around Memphis. I started teaching to steady the income and found I like it as much as the studio. These days that's thirty students a week, out of a converted garage behind our Midtown bungalow. Here I write about guitars, amps, strings and the gear a beginner really needs, which is usually less than you think. A proper setup (adjusting the neck, strings and action so it plays easy) will do more for you than a fancier guitar. Expect studio stories, early call times and some talk about tone, which is mostly in your hands. My daughter Amara is learning drums. I'm told that's karma.
